Winston Wächter Fine Art is excited to announce Betsy Eby - Beautiful Repair, a new collection of paintings exploring the interconnectedness of the natural world through visual and auditory experience. Rooted in the artist’s parallel practices as a painter and musician, the exhibition considers organic systems as vast, living compositions, networks of sound, color, movement, energy and relationship.
Continuing an exploration of Solfeggio frequencies and their associations with healing, Beautiful Repair is deeply rooted in material and process. The paintings become acts of Kintsugi, a philosophy of beautiful repair in which fracture and imperfection are not concealed, but acknowledged as part of an object’s history and transformation. Through repair there is hope.
Within the works, expansive colorfields suggest the universe, while layers of brushwork trace the presence of individual lives moving through it. Lines loop and intersect, separate and reconnect, influenced by forces both visible and unseen. They suggest strands of experience that are never entirely broken and never truly complete. There is no end to the strand, and no end to its interplay.
Beautiful Repair invites viewers to consider the traces they leave within the interconnected systems of which they are a part, and to imagine repair not as a return to what was, but as an ongoing, creative act of becoming.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Betsy Eby has been exhibited widely across the United States and her works are held in the collections of the Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA, the Columbus Museum, Columbus, GA, the Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, GA, and several United States Embassies around the world. Eby splits her time between Georgia and Maine, where she holds studios with her husband and painter Bo Bartlett.
