Winston Wächter Fine Art Seattle is pleased to announce our ninth solo exhibition with Seattle-based artist Michael Schultheis. In The Moons of Galileo, Schultheis explores the depth and nuance of human connection through analytics, mathematically exploring how two people orbit each other across a lifetime. Working with forms first discovered by 17th century mathematician Giovanni Ceva in his studies of Galileo, Schultheis paints and sculpts exploratory equations that visualize the significance that people and specific moments have on our lives. Referencing the infinite possibility of a blank chalkboard, Schultheis animates infinity signs, venn diagrams, and glyphs, mirroring the minutiae and transformative moments of our interior consciousness.

“We can use geometry to tell stories about human relationships, the people we love, and how we orbit in life together. This process allows us to see our interior portraiture, and what it looks like to connect with each other in life.” — Michael Schultheis

Michael Schultheis’ work can be found in the collections of the Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA; United States Embassy, Athens, Greece & Bern, Switzerland; and the Mathematical Association of America, Washington DC among many others. Exhibitions of his works have been held at the Howard Hughes Institute in Chevy Chase, MD and at the National Academies of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
