Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to present Frame of Mind, our first solo exhibition of new works by Marcel Rozek, an emerging voice in contemporary abstraction whose vivid, intuitive canvases breathe new life into the traditions of stain painting and color field abstraction.

Originally from Ohio and now based in California, Rozek employs a process rooted in the techniques of the Washington Color School, particularly the innovations of Morris Louis, but reinterprets them with a personal, contemporary sensibility. Using liquefied pigments poured onto raw, unprimed canvas, Rozek creates mesmerizing compositions where color and transparency merge in fluid, atmospheric forms. The paint seeps into the fabric, creating layers of organic shapes that blur and blend, forming unique color families and spectral gradients.

Rozek’s work resists easy categorization. His interest lies not only in formal color relationships, but in the deeper emotional resonance they provoke. Each painting is both an introspective gesture and an open dialogue, a visual language through which the artist seeks to communicate feeling, intuition, and reflection. “I try to translate depth and intuition to the viewer in the hopes we can have a conversation and a connection,” Rozek states.

The exhibition highlights Rozek’s ability to marry technical rigor with expressive vulnerability. The stained surfaces, with their slow-soaking blooms and quiet interplays, speak to both the legacy of mid-century abstraction and the search for meaning in contemporary visual experience.

Since receiving his BFA from the Myers School of Art in 2017, Rozek has steadily built a following with collectors across Istanbul, London, Rome, and beyond. Frame of Mind marks a significant moment in his evolving practice, one that is deeply rooted in history, yet resolutely forward-looking.
