Kim Keever’s underwater photographs take a conceptually simple process to its logical, sublime conclusion. Comprised of works from his Abstract series, Aquarium Daydream magnifies the ephemeral, crashing elegance of chemical interactions through bursting, combusting clouds of paint. For having a background in thermal engineering, Keever’s photography maintains a graceful fluidity, seemingly opposing the rigid, analytical structures of science. Inherently, the two worlds work in tandem, creating vast expanses of unsentimental beauty. Keever captures fleeting compositions that feel directionless, with fields of color pulling apart and coalescing together at once. Pigments intertwine like silken garments in a dust storm, radiant magma trapped in a diorama.

Kim Keever’s work is included in numerous collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, DC. His work has been featured in many publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Wired Magazine.
