Horizon is a collection of paintings by Audrey Stone that envision subtle changes in tone and light as reverberant moments of tranquility. In this series, the Brooklyn-based artist paints intricately gradated bands of fluctuating color, drawing attention to the way we observe transitions in the natural landscapes around us. Adjacent and opposing hues float into each other with a knifelike precision that complements the underlying calmness. Contrasting blues and oranges coexist in the same color field, recalling the blurred grandeur of the horizon fading from an airplane window, or the inexpressible complexity of a relationship. Stone’s work highlights how information is processed, and how that perception is oftentimes both choppy, full of boundaries, and effortlessly seamless.

Audrey Stone received her MFA from Hunter College and her BFA from Pratt Institute, both in painting. She also studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and was selected for the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited widely across the United States, as well as in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, England, France, and Japan.
