Through her photography Deb Achak explores her fascination with water and the ways in which we connect with it. She examines the texture, color, and poetry of the ocean as well as the commonalities across cultures in ways we gather, find joy, relax, and contemplate at the beach.
In her Ebb and Flow series, Deb Achak takes the viewer into the water, either submerging her camera or hovering just above the water line. This series allows us to feel the power of the ocean, as well as its ability to sooth and heal.
Achak’s Aquatic Street series documents life by the ocean as the silent observer. She moves within the crowds of people, capturing the impact the ocean can have on human behavior in honest and genuine expressions.
Side By Side Each Facing the Sun is a visual autobiography of Achak's relationship to the root chakra, the first of the seven energy centers that comprise our energetic anatomy. The series explores notions of home, family of origin, the earth, history, safety, and humanity.
My Eyes Need Beauty was born during the time of COVID and in the weeks when the West was blanketed with forest fire smoke. Homebound and restless, Deb Achak found strength and optimism through the healing power of flowers, vivid color, and meditative movement. Although born out of concern for the modern world, this work is intended to bring us all back to the extraordinary strength of nature and the revolutionary act of creating beauty out of pain.
